This is not a thriller. I mean, it is THRILLING, but... it's like Desperate Housewives as a book. It really reads & feels like that a lot, with a lot of character growth. Really it's a story of 3 families and they all have their own conflicts but it's done SO WELL. Nothing felt too rushed or glazed over.

Characters- oof, I loved Rachel's relationship with Lauren (mother in laws, oof.) and how it played out and developed. Rachel & Jacob were so cute. Tess was my fave female of the 3 female protagonists we alternated views of. I hated Cecilia at first but she really grew on me. I think she's first introduced so much as a Stepford wife, overly judgemental, overly chatty type but man as the book went on she got some DEPTH and i loved it.

There's one scene that made me CRINGE HARD AF and it's when these two characters are about to have sex and seconds before the...you know goes in, the guy says "RIGHTIO"

RIGHTIO. I want to vomit. If any guy ever says the word RIGHTIO to me in the bedroom, I'm getting the fuck out of there. Sorry, thanks but no thanks.

Overall, I really liked the book and absolutely want to read more of Moriarty's work. This was a banger. Not the best banger, but a banger.

RIGHTIO. get the fuck out of here.

This is the first book I’ve read by Moriarty, but it will not be my last! I really enjoyed this story with its twists and turns as it follows three women whose stories are interconnected in ways they do not realize. One of my favorite things this author did was to give readers a glimpse into a future that would have been if different choices had been made.

I read this pretty quickly because I just needed all the stories to end! I was very confused in the beginning by the three seemingly random threads, although it really didn't take long to see that they were all going to intersect.
2 stars really seems a little low - it should probably be 2.5. The writing was fine and kept me wanting to know how it all wrapped up. I think I just didn't really identify with any of the characters and was more than a little disturbed by the nature of the "secret".

I did think that much of the commentary on grief, married life, and parenthood were right on.

We were going to read this in book club and then picked something else - I could see it being a good one for discussing. I'm sure everyone comes away from reading this book with a different impression!

I was super pumped to read this book after reading Big Little Lies. This book started out good but never changed. It just seemed to bump along with no great revelations or changes. A bit of a disappointment.

I dithered about the star rating for this one. On the one hand, I couldn't put it down, because I needed to find out what would happen. However, once we got past the "big reveal" (what was in the letter), I got impatient with the twists and turns.

This is the second book I've read recently where marriages fall apart and I'm reading because I'm curious to know how they'll survive their marriage breakup and what their future will be - but at the end, the author sends them all
Spoilerscurrying back into the safety of their marriage, "for the sake of the children", even though their relationship with their husband sounds untenable. Not my idea of a happy ending but perhaps that's because I'm not a mother.

The plot was fairly predictable. I guessed most of what happened. However, it was an easy read and I liked the characterisation. I would read more of Ms Moriarty.
