Thorough exploration of the impact of tuberculosis on people, whole countries, throughout history, and also focuses in on individuals dealing with its effects. There is a lot to be learned in this book, including the people involved in the discovery of germs and how to battle them.

Really nice to read about Robert Koch after taking microbiology. The man behind the postulates! Hooray science! And the parts on Arthur Conan Doyle were so interesting and helped put him in historical context for me.

Fascinating book about tuberculosis, the scientific method, and the origins of Sherlock Holmes. The connection between Koch and Conan Doyle is pretty tenuous, but still a good read.

The Remedy is the fascinating, inspiring and ultimately heartbreaking story of Robert Koch, germ theory, and political influence over scientific discovery. What keeps it from being a 5-star book is that the link between Koch and Conan Doyle amounts to two people in the same building at the same time who never actually meet. Still I’m sure this will be at the top of the history of science narratives this year.
