Sophia Dawson is 27 years old and on the hunt for a respectable husband even if she has to buy him. No one in society knows that she is the daughter of a pirate and a whore (literally). No one knows that 7 years ago she ended her year long relationship (as his mistress) with the notorious pirate Captain Black Hawk when he wouldn't marry her. No one except for Captain James Hawkins aka Black Hawk.
Now 40 years old James Hawkins has ended his piracy days but memories of Sophia still haunt him. When he sees her at a ball the chase is on. James is doing anything he can to get Sophia back into his bed (not with good intentions). Sophia is constantly pulling knives. The two bicker often and still they are drawn together.

Sophia Dawson, daughter of a pirate, seven years ago fell in love with Pirate Black Hawke, one of the most infamous pirates but when she fell in love, she found she couldn't stay without marriage, and she wanted more than to be his mistress and being shunned by everyone surrounding her, she deserves more than that. Now she is in England, and respectable, and is very close to winning the hand of a Duke, but then James enters into her life once more, and she knows that he can destroy everything that she has worked for to get to this point. James, once the Black Hawke Pirate, has retired from pirating for his sisters sake, and hates being in Society, but then he sees the one woman that he has vowed for revenge, thinking she is cold and unfeeling. However both Sophia and James, are headstrong and stubborn, and when they enter into a battle of wills which could lead to scandal or the most exquisite pleasure to be found in one another's arms once more. Although The Infamous Rogue was a wonderful romance to read, it was one of those that I had to push myself into reading. It didn't draw me in as other books of this author has. I think the problem was the characters in this book. It just seemed off to me the way they interacted with each other, especially at the beginning of the book. Maybe its just me, or.. I don't know, but this is probably one of my least favorites of this author that she has written. Although I do like reading from this author, The Infamous Rogue just doesn't do it for me. It did have some good points though, I did enjoy the plot of the story and although I liked the book it was a bit more than an average read, although I will be reading the rest of her books that are related to this one though. I hope I will enjoy them much more. But if you like historical romances with a handsome rogue pirate, than you will enjoy this one.

Readable but forgettable romance
3 stars

Seven years ago, Sophia Dawson had a heated affair with the infamous pirate Black Hawk until one day her heart was broken and she disappeared from his life. She's managed to turn her life around and is now ready to take her place in society by marrying an earl who knows nothing of her scandalous past.

Everything is going well until Black Hawk, now a respectable sea captain, re-appears in her life with only one thing on his mind - revenge. James Hawkins is determined to make Sophia pay for abandoning him all those years ago and he's going to use every trick in the book to make her surrender.

To begin with, I was really engrossed with this book - it was engaging, interesting and the writing style made you want to keep reading. After a little while the story got a little boring and repetitive with Sophia and James simply snipping at each other.

There was a lot of references to Sophia and James' torrid past but despite the build up, I felt that the eventual sex scenes were without emotion or passion.

There were times when the story picked up and I again got engrossed but the storyline really fluctuated between interesting and dull. In the end I felt a little let down by the ending as it didn't seem real and again lacked depth of emotion.

Overall, it's not a book I would necessarily pass on but it's definitely not the best I have ever read. I'm also not going to give up on [a:Alexandra Benedict|40885|Alexandra Benedict|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1260763918p2/40885.jpg] as I enjoyed her writing style but would only give this effort 3 stars.
