I literally just finished it an now I'm so confused!!!
The story is basically about a journalist (Joe) chasing a story after they discover some cult leader (Malachi) is tricking people into thinking they're ill so he can "cute" them. When Joe exposes him Malachi has it in for him and seeks revenge.

I'm not going to give it all away but I will say that nothing is what it seems.
The book starts with a lot of action, you get throw into the story from the start; the middle of the story goes a bit slower and time is mostly spend on fitting all the pieces of the puzzle together. But at the end, when you think the puzzle is done and you want to admire you work; the puzzle is not the one you started with.
I have to admit, I have some questions and I feel like the reader gets to make of it what it wants. Might be wrong on that one though.

Wanted to read The Devil of Nanking and for some reason decided to start with this instead. It was good in the beginning and then all started to go downhill from the midpoint. Confusing, slow-paced, asshole characters, weird narrative, all around uncomfortable to read and not in a good way.

None of it was enjoyable. That’s for sure.

This was easy to read and interesting even though the story didn't go forward really fast.

This had really unlikable characters...

The beginning of the book was awesome! It was so creepy & scary and I loved it. And saw nightmares, haha. But after the beginning this was more okay than awesome. I still liked the darkness in this book and I wanted to continue reading even though this was quite slow.

This was unbelievable predictable and that was a big disappointment. Well there was a tiny turn of events that I hadn't guessed but everything went like I thought in the big picture. I still liked the ending scene.
