Amazing world building and plot, with great insight and reflections on colonisation and history. The first half of the book is a bit slow - although it aims to round the characters and their relations, it drags a bit around the academic period.

Set in 1830's Oxford, with insight to silver trades, opium, translators' guild, and told with full, in-depth characters who shine through the story, and told through a modern lens. Beautifully written, though bitter-sweet in its ending, it is open-ended with the potential for follow-up if wanted.

I don't even know what to say about this right now, but excellently written and a must read. I don't usually read this long of books, but it flew by. Highly recommend. Might update later.
