Oh boy an intense read, but I loved it. There is an innate underlying tension to a book about a closeted queer person, because you know that at some point in some way they will be out. Whether through coming out or being outed, and that's scary. It's a great book, and very accessible to people who might not be super clued up on 'transness', but a nice nostalgia of teen drama for those who grew up not seeing themselves in stories

As far as writing and characterization go, this is easily 5 stars. But as far as personal enjoyment, this was a 3-star read for me. While I personally didn't find it triggering, this could easily be triggering for other readers (attempted rape, attempted suicide, bullying, and an extremely transphobic environment). It took me what felt like an eternity to finish reading this book simply because of how harrowing it was at times, and not in the enjoyable exciting way. This is an important story that needs to be told and to be widely read, just don't go into this expecting a light teen drama.
