a very strong start to an epic fantasy series. martin weaved multiple pov's, separate plotlines, and a staggering cast of characters with ease. his prose is descriptive without being overindulgent. his handling of the dothraki, and how so many women dies in childbirth is :/ his cishet white man shenanigans aside, i loved this book. even at several hundred pages (what the fuck george) heed all content warnings.

Reread No 4, 13.03.2023

My last review didn't age well, lol. Still no Winds of Winter.
But I still love this book. Read it with a few friends (we're attempting to read the whole series so far this year) and we had in depth discussions about every chapter we read. This is now my favorite way to experience the story.
Additionally, I still love the writing style, the short chapters, the characters, the story and the plotting. And I'm not tired of the story yet. Was still excited to be reading it and to be back in this world and spend time with my fav characters. Even though I know and remember all the twists, I still flew through the book, and it was actually hard to pause reading before our weekly book club meeting. And I still, still found new and surprising details in this book.

Reread No 3, 06.05.2018

Wüsste ganz gerne, was ich damals gedacht habe.
