Baš ništa posebno. :( Malo sam čak i razočarana. Previše ponavljanja, likovi nedorađeni... Mnjeh.

I was intrigued at first because of the historical fiction aspect, but the weight of a sometimes-confusing plot that threw together almost-too many moving parts and hit generic storied beats got a bit sluggish, especially from the middle to the end.
Persis as a character, too, had no depth to me. I never felt like I got to know her more than those tender moments with her dad. Outside of that, she was just a cold, hardened policewoman who is like most Law & Order no bullshit types.
I may give the second book in the series a chance, but not for awhile. I think Khan has strong writing at times, especially in the historical aspects and the character building scenes, but he needs to bring that to the forefront of the story. Obviously that will take away from some mystery, and maybe I just don’t like mystery novels, but in this first novel in the series, the mystery ended up becoming the least interesting part to me.
…I say all this, but I also could see it being an entertaining enough Netflix India drama series.

Adventurous and cerebral mystery about the first female detective in the Indian Police Force.
Personally, I would've preferred fewer deep dives into Indian history, but that may be due to familiarity.
Looking forward to the next book!
