I found the constant switching between first and third person, especially early on, quite jarring. The characterization of Harry and Sarah are spot on but ironically, I felt the fourth doctor was hit and miss. It gets quite surreal later, think Deadly Assassin. All in all, a quite forgettable tale.

I love Tom Baker way more than I love his writing.

Eh, it's alright.
I really love that the fourth doctor read this out.
I'm on the fence about it being first person from the doctor's perspective. It is unusual compared to other doctor who novels and I'm just not sure of my thoughts on this.
I don't like that it is first person, but explained what Harry and Sarah were up to when the doctor wasn't around.

The story starts with some genuinely sinister scarecrow-things terrorising some villagers it launches into a battle with the devil which resembles the Doctor's fight against the Mind Robber or the Toymaker.

What's odd is that the Doctor is supposedly narrating the tale to a jury of timelords but it lurches from his first person perspective to third person viewpoints of Sarah-Jane and Harry.

Which is even odder when narrated by Tom Baker in the audiobook. But listening to Tom Baker is always glorious.
