This was an alright read. I am not American, nor was I alive during the 60s and 70s, so I'm sure I missed many references that may have made it more enjoyable. I liked the essays that didn't require historical references, the ones about Didion's experience are fun to read.

On the rare occasion where Joan is actually relevant to the contents of the essays here it's quite interesting. It's just a shame that the majority of the collection is miscellaneous meanderings about topics I'm not that interested in.
