This was just okay. Basically, Emma had no personality other than being in love with two men. Total Mary Sue. The two men weren't much better - their sole reason for existing / self-defining characteristic was..... being in love with Emma. So. Doesn't make for much of a riveting plot, when everything is so generic and bland that literally every character can serve as an entry-point for self-insertion. I liked the message in the end, but otherwise, this was pretty flat.

4.75 ⭐️ I think this is maybe the closest a romance will ever come to a 5 star for me. There was just that little bit more to this story. The way it describes grief and love was beautiful.

A year since reading and this book is stillll on my mind, when proposed a question like the one in this novel it is almost impossible to choose history vs. present, what could be vs what was! Reading the novel My heart ached for her but overall going over my choices I think I would have acted the same
