An absolutely amazing take on King Arthurs beginning as King and also having such strong female characters. As someone who has always loved myths and legands, I can happily say that this is now one of my favorite books! It took less than 12 hours to read!

novel in verse. short lines but very effective wording, wonderful descriptions. excellent version of a brief period of Arthur's life from the pserspective of Elaine, Lady of Shalott. not the version where she's stuck in the tower at the loom, but living in an army camp with her father and two brothers. she's the healer. there are appearances by Gwynnivere, Lancelot, Tristan (of & Isolde fame), and, opf course, Arthur himself. there's an author's note at the end that's interesting, and suggested If You Like Arthurian Legend reading.

It's sweet and short. Too short to adequetly pull a reader in, but a nice, light fairy-tale.

I'm not always fond of books about King Arthur - a bit overwhelmed by Arthurian literature at uni - but this verse novel is brilliant. Elaine, the Lady of Shallott, has been raised with Arthur's warband following the death of her mother.

This was the book that got me into reading. I was in the 5th grade and I HAD to get a book from the book fair for my reading log. It was required, for some reason. And up until reading Song of the Sparrow, I hated to do my reading log. I was the kid who tried to pass with picture books instead.
This book is written with verses. So it tricked little me into thinking the book was easier/faster to read. I found myself inseparable from the book until I finished it though. And I've read it four times since. I highly recommend!
