Cop propaganda and we don't do that over here, bye.

I had a fun time reading Brimstone Bound, but it certainly didn't wow me.

There were quite a few plot holes and things that didn't make sense, and I found the motives to be a bit unsatisfying. They weren't exactly unrealistic to be fair, but there was something about how the villains acted/spoke that was incredibly cheesy and cartoonish. I just wasn't convinced.

But it was relatively unique and enjoyable to read, so I think I'll be reading the second book. Hopefully the characters (including future villains) are fleshed out a bit more.

This one gets 3.5 stars from me. Some things I liked:
- No instalove
- Characters were interesting
- Plot was okayish
Things I could have done without
- It seems extremely obvious to me that Emma is going to be a demon and I don't know why they can't just spell that out. As far as I can see in the reviews of the next book it still isn't sorted by then so I'm going to finish one and done with this series.
- I like more steam than none at all, and this book has jack for steam so if you enjoy that this one may be a skip.
- the character development while good is extremely slow going. I like my stories and characters to develop a tad quicker than molasses.

Ms Harper is a new to me author and I’m so glad I found this series. This was a fun romp through an alternate London among werewolves and vampires.
Part of the Kindle Unlimited catalog.

Update.

Helen Harper is one of my favourite authors. Her books always has an original idea, and as soon as you start, you just can't stop reading! I love all of her books and this one is one the best. It's intriguing and entertaining. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Well done - again!

A Good Detective Story – Looking Forward To The Next Tale!

I’ve only got one other title by Helen Harper on my shelf [b:The Noose of a New Moon|58034586|The Noose of a New Moon (Wolfbrand #1)|Helen Harper|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1620932181l/58034586._SX50_.jpg|86940343]. I like her writing style; it feels well researched and natural. The supernatural world that Helen has created is a rich, fantastical tapestry that still feels real and believable. I enjoyed Helen’s pacing and the twists and turns in the plotline. The banter in this story was really good; it felt natural and had me smiling and chuckling out loud quite a few times.
