This book was just fine. I don't think I can say that I loved it, but I will say that it was entertaining enough to be sufficient as an audiobook during my commutes. It felt like a decent story that is ultimately forgettable.
Emma is pushed in head-first into the supernatural world, and she (reasonably) teeters a bit, trying to find her way. She's not my favorite main character, and I even found her annoying at times. Some of that was more due to her circumstances that were annoying than her.
This book was essentially a detective novel within a urban fantasy setting. I haven't read a book this solidly in the detective genre in a while, so this was a bit refreshing for me. I would probably consider listening to the next book in the series.

Strong start, Emma's position and the world was quickly established and then the devastating event of her murder and resurrection was compelling and kept me reading. The mystery was well done and I enjoyed the interactions with Lukas, looking forward to seeing how the relationship evolves in the next book. My one gripe is that the final big reveal... didn't make a huge amount of sense? And if you follow the logic presented in the book, it's not a great reflection on Emma for failing to spot a psychopath in her midst. However, I still enjoyed the book and I will definitely be reading book two.
