I liked it! I don't think it was fantastic, I don't really understand the world we're in with electric ships and whatever else, but I dug the all-lady pirate brigade!
I love pirate stories. I love pirate stories, and I love lady pirates, and I feel like Natalie Parker absolutely NAILED the 'ship full of lady pirates sailing around and looking for vengeance' in an incredibly satisfying and gleefully piratical way. It's good and fun and stressful and full of important female friendships and ship on ship violence and sneaky girls getting by.
I loved this. I'm not sure if I can think of one thing I didn't like about it. I can't wait to read the next book.

An amazing first in the series! I had no idea when I started that this was a dystopian YA. The blend of steel and wood, the small bits of backstory. It was pretty incredible. The plot was great and the ending was ... Perfect!

Fun YA, but frustrated that this first book in trilogy stops right in the middle of the story.
Amazing. This book has quickly become one of my new faves. It is fast paced, with fierce, strong and brave girls. The main character is one of my favorites now and there were amazing and naturally progressing character arcs. I will 100% be rereading this book and I can not wait for the next installment!
This book was great! I didn't know I needed a story about a futuristic all-girl pirate crew, but now I want a thousand more books like it. The writing was engaging, detailed without being over-the-top or flowery, and struck the perfect balance of exposition and plot. All of the characters were easy to root for, and I loved the diversity! The world building was also pretty solid. My only complaint is that I thought Pisces and Caledonia were going to be in love--they were just about the gayest best friends I've ever read, and I loved the concept of that, so I was disappointed when there was another straight romance instead. But (without spoiling anything) a part at the end made me kind of think The Gay Stuff with them is coming later in the series, and there is a side couple that is gay, though I wanted more of them, too. Overall, this book was exciting, well-done, and definitely made me want to keep reading. I look forward to the sequel. I just wish it was gayer, and that I knew anything about boats--some of the jargon was a little much for me.
This is the first in a series about a futuristic nautical ship of rebel women fighting an evil empire run by a despotic "father" who conscripts children and controls his conscripts through addiction. If you like pirates and ubderdog rebels, this book is for you.
