Something about this book reminded me so much of reading fan fiction, I mean it says it in the dedication.
But I loved it.
There were some details that once I read I forgot about. I don’t remember reading that they were on school holidays or vacation or whatever but half way through I thought, huh? Shouldn’t they be in school. But I’m the next few chapters it was clarified, that isn’t anything to do with the book not being set right, that’s just my stupidity.
The metaphor of people making their own coping mechanisms as a toolbox is fun and makes a lot of sense and I like that it wasn’t just mentioned once.

This brings together so many of my favourite tropes (fanfic or otherwise). I was crying and laughing throughout the whole thing, and my heart was jumping each time they almost kissed.

I expected this book to feel a lot more like the millions of fanfics I’ve read with this exact trope. But it ended up feeling more like your usual ya contemporary novel. However, I still really loved it. Even if the trauma and angst threw me off a bit at the start, I grew to love this story.
There was so much tension. Jesus, those girls really just danced around each other for years. It made my slow burn loving heart very happy.
Anyway, Penny and Tate are amazing and I’d like to throw Lottie from a very high building :)
