Elena was the girl I once loved to hate in the first Savage book I read that she was in. But a different side of her emerged in The Savage Series and I couldn’t wait to read her story . Her story is completely explained in this book, so readers don’t have to read the other books prior to reading this one. This book shows so many dimensions of Elena and sheds so much insight into some of her negative actions during her high school years. She had so much on her plate and dealt with it in her own way. I love how the author turned my anger at a character into empathy and compassion over a series of interconnected books. I throughly enjoyed reading her redemption story that showed how much she changed and matured.

Lachlan was the guy I was rooting for to be there for Elena. I loved the chemistry between Lachlan and Elena. I love reading enemies to lovers romance books and Lachlan definitely treats her like an enemy at first. I enjoyed reading how their relationship started and changed. I enjoyed all of the scenes where Lachlan shows his protectiveness. After a highly emotional journey with so much angst, I was delighted with the outcome at the end of the book. This book will become one of my favorite books to reread.

These books are just getting better and better. This is about two people who kind of hate each other but also really want to hook up so they decide to have a fun, no strings, relationship. This book has convinced me that the brooding but a sweetheart MMC x asshole to everyone but those she loves FMC is the best trope.

Elena is a badass. She was a typical high school mean girl who now only dishes it to those who deserve it. (She was a bully and she feels remorse for what’s she’s done but doesn’t try to fix it or apologize). She shows her love for her friends in a different way than is typical. She’s cold and blunt but she’s never actually cruel or mean. Lock constantly only sees her as this cold hearted person who doesn’t care for anyone but time and time again he is proven wrong.

Lock was a broody, possessive, mountain and the best kind of MMC. He was also a sweetheart and was so good for Elena. He brought out the best in her. He would always do these small, seemingly normal things for her that may not seem like a big deal but had me smiling the whole time. We love a man who takes control and you know will take care of you.

I liked how their conflict didn’t feel like it came out of no where. You could see hints of the issues they had woven into their entire relationship. Then when the MMC messed up, there was some well deserved grovelling. Elena it not a doormat and stood up for herself. I don’t think I’ve ever been so satisfied by how a character has handled their SO messing up. But Lock was not discouraged for a second.

This was a great book and my favourite so far! It was just exactly what I like in a typical contemporary romance and I ate it up.

If you told me after the first Savage River book that I would want Elena’s story and for her to have a happy ending of her own I would never have believed you. Do I think every one of her previous misdeeds are okay, nope, but man do I fully understand now how and why she came to be that way and why she did some of the things she did. That is the power of a good story teller and well crafted characters. Over the course of the series JW has taken a character I hated and made me love her in all her prickly, bitchy, pink bat wielding glory. She was strong, smart, ambitious, beautiful, vulnerable, ugly, mean, rude and messy and I loved her for every bit of it.

Elena and Lachlan were everything I hoped they would be. Loved them together even if they were silly fools thinking they could do light and easy. Lachlan was a wonderful, taciturn, protective, supportive teddy bear and frustrating dummy. There were so many moments where his actions were perfect but then his words would just fall completely short of the mark or at odds with how he was behaving/ reacting to Elena. I loved him and was just willing him to get it together and have those two things (actions plus words) sync up. It took him a while but oh when he got it right he got it right. Lots of heat 🔥🔥🔥 ( I would expect nothing less) and so much lovely softness and realness. Lachlan breaking down Elena’s walls bit by bit, messing it up (cos dumb boy) and then earning that trust back again was everything. 😍😍

The Savage U friendship group continues to be great. Helen (always a real one) and Zadie supporting and loving Elena was great (I adore how that friendship trio has developed and I got legit emotional when she said they were her girls). Loved Elena and her friendship with Julian (her tough love covered in a bit of barbed wire was 100% Elena and exactly what he needed). I loved this and I really hope this isn’t the last trip we take to these characters or Savage U. ( A sweet 5 ⭐️).

I had been WAITING for Lachlan and Elena's story, and it did not disappoint one bit. If anything it made me love this couple even more. These opposites (in theory) were perfect for each other, and the hate to love was fantastic.

Witnessing Lachlan pull Elena out of her shell a bit, and peel back those layers only to then discover the true Elena. Allowing her to be vulnerable about a past relationship, and how that has affected her to this day tugged on the heartstrings a bit. But then Lachlan sharing his truth about why he is adverse to relationships, and that tugged a tad bit as well. These two wounded individuals have been drawn together, and they just fit so wonderfully.
