This book had a little bit of everything...action, suspense, humor, and some angst but with lots of sprinkles of sweetness through the story. The sweetness is not toothaching sweet, the author sprinkles it perfectly into the story when the reader needs a break/buffer from the heartbreak. There is some angst but since the author does not delve too deep or too long into the mental or emotional abuse, it is not overwhelming. However, the author does not dismiss the MCs emotions or pain but treats it respectfully.
Shae life was horrible, being held captive and abused by his family until he was able to escape. He receives help from the MEOW organization, a group made up of misfits who help Otherkind in trouble. Included in this group was Griffin, a loveable, optimistic, ray of sunshine Wolfkin with undefeated puppy dog eyes, cute ears, and never stopping tail. He was exactly what Shae needed to help him see that the world wasn't full of cruel and untrusting people. Griffin was so patient and caring with Shae, giving him the space and support Shae needed to heal emotionally and physically. Griffin made sure he was by Shae's side every step of the way, even when Shae tried to push him away. And since Shae could not resist those puppy dog eyes, Griffin was able to wiggle his way into Shae's heart.
The MEOW group was very intriguing, created by different types of Otherkind, each with a different set of powers. I really hope we get their stories too.

DID NOT FINISH: 12%

I tried. I really did! I LOVE Shae. He's just so strong and determined and a survivor, but Griff is some cross between a Himbro and a Golden Retriever and reading him is like listening to nails on a chalkboard. NOT the author's fault. I just can't stand Himbros and rarely like Golden Retriever MCs. So this is a double whammy of annoyance. I do like all the side characters and really hope this is the beginning of a series, as I'm assuming. I'm excited to read their stories.
As a side note, this reads  anime, which is cool, unfortunately watching anime feels badass while reading it in this book makes the whole concept seem almost silly or super cutesy. I think it will just take me a bit to get used to it.

I absolutely loved this play on the classic Cinderella story.  Shae has been held prisoner and abused by his stepmother, stealing his Siren voice for her own benefit.  All the while, his own father does nothing to help him.  Margaret, the stepmother is an excellent villain, she is genuinely cruel and added weight to the story.  The plot definitely has some dark themes, but the humor in the writing makes this such an engaging read.  The humor and wackiness was the perfect way to balance the darker aspects of the plot.  I loved how dumbfounded Shae was by the oddity that is the MEOW Squad and his utter puzzlement over Griff, the Wolfkin who says they are fated mates was a highlight for me.  Griff was amazing and such an engaging narrator.  I looked forward to his chapters because he’s so full of joy.  Grumpy Sunshine is a favorite trope and this was like the ultimate grumpy sunshine romance, I’m not sure I’ve read a sunnier sunshine character than Griff.  The magical characters and world building are truly top notch and impressive, making it very easy to be absorbed into the world.  My favorite part though was seeing the bond grow between Shae and Griff as they work to bring Margaret down.  They are crazy good together, this was a fun read.  Loved it!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Oh my gawd (girl squeal) it's soo cute. Great story with all the fluffy you could ask for. Griffin with his exuberant amount of energy and overall personality is a great fit for Shae with his understandably amount of distrust of all things fate related. And I especially love how Griffin uses his eyes, which he does a lot, which makes it even more cute. I'm glad Shae got his revenge and his mom back. Can't wait for more from the MEOW squad, I wonder who the coin will pick next in the team. Keep up the great work.

"Siren in the Rain" is the newest release in the multi-author, Fortune Favors the Fae series by Chloe Archer. This book contnues to follow the journey of the very special coin as it brings another couple together. In this case the couple are abuse victim and half-Siren, Shea and Wolfkin Empath, Griffin. Because of circumstances this is a book with hurt/comfort, Found Family, and Grumpy/Sunshine themes. This book is the first in a new series set in the authors Monsters Hollow universe but can be read apart from that series with no problem. It's nice to get more of a glimpse of the world even though that world can be cruel and unjust.  There are some darker themes in this book, but they are handled with a softer touch, so that the lightness of the characters can shine through and the focus can be on the budding romance.

This is an adorable romance between fated mates. It is slow burn as characters need to heal and recover from horrible circumstances. I love all the characters but Griffin fills that place I love for cinnamon roll/golden retriever characters. He is simply adorable and he and Shea fit well together and deserve their HEA. I can't wait to see how this series progresses and read more of the Fortune Favors the Fae books.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

The MEOW Squad are absolutely amazing 😻

Griffin is the most pure, adorably cute, full of sunshine, golden retriever himbo surfer dude Wolfkin and I couldn’t help but fall in love with him and his “SCSS” abilities. Not going to spoil the fun for you by telling you what it means!  Circumstances have the MEOW squad rescuing half siren Shae from a very dire situation and Griffin immediately recognises Shae as his mate. Shae is somewhat grumpy and full of sass and snark but together these two wonderful characters make the perfect pair, even if Shae initially is not convinced that fated mates are a thing. He is soon absorbed into the wonderful found family of misfits that make up MEOW as they embark on the serious task before them.
My heartstrings were pulled taut as Shae and Griffin revealed how they been mistreated in the past but the story telling ability of this dependable author also had me laughing out loud, sighing at the swoon and just wanting to scratch Griffin’s bug fluffy ears.
I loved this book from start to finish and was cheerleading all the way through as Shae and Griffin bumbled their way to a hard earned HEA. There’s also plenty of very interesting side characters that have me eager for their stories to be told and I can’t wait for more in the spin off series to come.
