Too advanced for my kid. Want to revisit in a few years

An old-fashioned, heart-warning tale in the style of Elizabeth Enright or Eleanor Estes.

Love, love, loved this one! Truly did not anticipate liking this one as much as I did but it was beautiful and sweet. Like Penderwicks 2.0 - a story with a clear plot (but with meaningful subplots to fill that awesome sibling/family vibes), a bi-racial family, living in an apartment (brownstone) instead of a traditional home, living in Harlem - there were so many elements of this that were beautiful and lovely and I highly recommend this book to all my late elementary readers and middle school readers. This is also just a great book for families to read together - it truly has something for everyone.

I just finished this delightful book and am totally in love with the Vanderbeekers! Themes of family, grief, community, friends and love warmed my heart. I can't wait to stare this gem of a book with my students!

"It takes a super brave person to be as generous as you are, Hyacinth. Not many people are brave enough to be so loving."

The Vanderbeekers have always lived in their brownstone on 141st Street. When their mysterious and recluse landlord decides not to renew their lease, the five siblings join together to convince him to change his mind by showing him just how wonderful they are. The only problem? They only have 11 days.

This book is just delightful. I use that term a lot, but when I use it, I mean it. I had seen a lot of praise for this little story and so I was slightly nervous that I might not like it as much as everyone else, but I did. This unique family of seven captured my heart immediately, as well as the cast of characters that surrounded them.

A quick happy read for the holidays. This is children’s literature with a sweet story about a big family in NYC. Lots of preteen angst but very inventive. A nice comfort read for my last book of 2023

Simply phenomenal.

We listened to this in the car and I liked it, but it didn't grab me the way I was hoping it would.
