What an adorable book! I loved it so much, and Brian Selznick has to be one of the most talented people EVER. Not only is he a fantastic story teller, his drawings might be even better. The story is adorable. Very sad at times, and my mom told me she had to stop watching the movie because it was making her sad. But I just knew that there would be a happy ending, and there is. And that's something to really look forward to because it really brings everything together, and it's just one of the best endings ever. I read this with my book club, and if it weren't for my book club, I probably would have never picked this up because it's a children's book, and I usually don't read children's books, but it's SO cute.

Interesting winner of the Caldecott Award (children's picture book). I liked the story and I really liked the illustrations. I was surprised to find the story was past on historical/art events and people.
don't let the page # fool you, it's a very short book otherwise, but a good one at that.
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick is a beautiful work of children’s literature. Its graphic novel influences meld well with the story and really add a certain je ne sais quoi to the plot. The illustrations help to remove some potentially boring exposition in the story that children might find a bit tedious and replaces it with imaginative black- and-white pencil drawings.
Selznick draws readers in with the brave and adventurous protagonist Hugo whom gives intrigue and character to the novel. The story’s twists and turns are sure to keep children and adults alike interested and curious as to what will happen next. The culmination of a few seemingly separate plots come together beautifully to create a wonderful tale of thievery and mystery combined.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to spend a few moments immersed in a world that is not their own. This book is a fast read for adults, but still a worthwhile experience. For children, this novel could give them the extra boost in their reading with its intermittent illustrations that help the reader understand the story all the more. Selznick has really broken the mold for a children’s illustrated chapter book.
