Justina Ireland delivers once again. As a middle grade novel, I'll admit I'm not its target audience. However, as a Star Wars fan, and someone who is greatly enjoying The High Republic era, this was another great installment.
Vernestra remains a delight, but although she is a particular favorite of mine, suffice it to say that all of the characters have a ton of heart and soul behind them. Ireland remains a master at characterization.

A random pick.
I’m thinking the target audience is pre-teen. There’s plenty of conversations and discussions.
The plot itself is a pretty straightforward rescue mission: it alternates between the rescuer story and the prisoner story.
The Dalnan vice president, a man named Hackrack Bep, had taken Vernestra right to aggravated in less than a handful of minutes.
…………….
That just made Avon feel like crying all over again. Imri patted her on the shoulder. “I’m not mad, and we’re…”

Good thing I’m not a Jedi bc I am attached to Vern and Imri. Do they need protecting? No. Could I actually do anything to protect them? No. Would I die or kill for them? Yes.

A story full of action and twists, with characters that I love so much. There are plenty of adventures and the story progresses concretely, with new intriguing elements.
