Fun to listen to! But I liked the other 2 better. This one does feel like it's for a younger audience than me.

A girl landing in the pond at Eleanor West's school is surprising. You'd think they would be used to people popping up, but they don't normally land at the school. It turns out Rini's mom Sumi was murdered before she was conceived and now Rini has to find a way to bring her back to life to make sure she is able to be born.

We get to meet a few new people and a few new lands. The most prominent land is Confection, a land that has been baked together. The Baker created the world originally and more bakers have come and added to it.

The land is interesting, but I don't think it's my kind of world. The idea of everything being made of sugar and the laws of reality being different wasn't something I would like. I feel like it would all be sticky and mushy.

Not my favorite from the series; it felt like there were too many events rushed to fit the short page count. I did love getting to revisit some of our favorite characters though.

While this book wasn’t my favorite in the series so far, I think it’s necessary and a perfect juxtaposition. The stark differences between Confection and The Moors from book 2 is key to understanding the characters and their different points of view. Loved getting to see more of the different worlds.

The Wayward Children are back for another adventure in the third tome of Seanan McGuire's series. This one follows the timeline of the first volume, after devoting the second tome to a flashback. I was really glad to be back with a team of characters, which I think McGuire writes really well. There's banter, a lot of respect and consideration for one another, and once more an array of representation that makes my heart happy. Giving the slightest clue about the plot would be spoilers for Every Heart a Doorway, so I'll just say that if you enjoyed that one, you'll also enjoy Beneath the Sugar Sky.
Rep: fat, disabled, trans, black and Asian characters.
