A little confused by the ending as it feels like it's opening the way for a second book and I thought this was a standalone.
Do look up the trigger warnings before reading though, as the story can get quite violent.

I'll give Squad a try since it's spooky season but this is really putting a pin on, or maybe the nail into the coffin, that maybe I'm just so over YA (and YA-adjacent) books right now.
EDIT: I actually went back and re-read it and I'd just like to add Genevieve is the dumbest character and character twist in all of fiction.

I went into this book not knowing much about it other than the title and it surprised me with lots of different twists. I enjoyed the mythology, especially of the sea and the mermaids. It was also interesting to get the pov of the sea! I imagine our sea would be very disgusted with us. The characters go through a lot of developments and I grew to care about almost all of them. I will say the book lost me a little in the middle but it ended strong! I will definitely read the second book asap. All in all, a fascinating read with characters I wanted to root for.
