On Fire by Naomi Klein will make you mad, but it's also such an important read. It represents, in a way, a Zeitgeist of the 2010s: the rising rage of the climate movement that took a tumble when COVID hit. To see so many of the phenomena described herein have been exacerbated in the five years since the book's release is disheartening and slightly panic inducing. Still, this well-written compilation of essays is still highly relevant, and I recommend giving it a read. It is well researched, though a little heavy handed on the rhetoric, and definitely acted as a wake up call for me.

It’s wild to me how we can have books like this and still not make changes to help our environment and ourselves

Been meaning to read this collection of essays for a while and it did not disappoint. So proud of the work Canadian Naomi Klein does trying to effect change on a global scale to inspire governments to take the drastic actions we need to implement while we still have time for them to make a difference. She ends on a positive note hoping that the Biden Presidency won’t continue the tradition of ignoring climate change measures that past presidents (notably Trump) have ignored or worsened. I loved that this is the book that inspired Jane Fonda’s series of DC climate change protests last year. If you haven’t read Fonda’s book What can I do? I highly recommend it too!

You know...not her best. Thinking a lot about the ways that we can translate policies into popular education literature, unfortunately I don't think this is it. Also, I listened to the audiobook and they just get another reader half way through? Lmfao why? Anyways would recommend her other work!

As always, Naomi Klein tells it like it is. An amazing account of the past decade of the climate movement and a proposed path for the way forward.

It's exciting to have the opportunity to read a book that feels so important. Our rapidly advancing climate crisis has advanced beyond the worrisome stage and we are faced with the possibility of catastrophic disaster if we continue on the destructive path that has brought us to this place. Naomi Klein shares her considerable expertise and formidable knowledge concerning climate change, environmental disaster, and the intersectionality of economic inequality, systemic racism, the dangerous excesses of unregulated capitalism, the immigration crisis, declining health outcomes, and more. That might make it sound like an enormously depressing read, but the good news here is that Ms. Klein has created a compelling case for a comprehensive Green New Deal that would create the potential for improving and even alleviating most or all of these problems. She exhaustively documents the need for such a program and convincingly lays out her case for adopting a Green New Deal now.
This very moment.
I was tempted to despair as I read her account of the many climate disasters our world is currently subject to, some of which I did not even know about. Thankfully though, I found reason for hope in the pages of this book. "On Fire" is certainly one of the most important and inspiring books that I have read in a very long time, and I am enthusiastically recommending it to everyone who lives on this planet, and wants to keep doing so.
