Kristin Cashore

4.13 AVERAGE

There is a lot to love about this book. As always, Cashore’s writing is fairly flawless. She is the master of the non-cheesy, one liner. She also managed to make tedious travel days interesting and constantly tense. I think that has to do with her skill of not just character building, but understanding so thoroughly how each character would relate to each other. This is why she excels at multiple POVs and political intrigue, but the political intrigue of this book fell rather flat. I can understand that wasn’t the focus of this narrative, however, and it was fun to go back to a singular POV. Hava’s head was *mostly* fun to be in. I can sympathize that she has a crap ton of trauma but GURL. It took you 565 pages to realize YOU’RE the problem? And not in a “everyone hates me guess I’ll kill myself way” but in a “I have power to change my behavior to make the lives of my loved ones easier” kind of way. Anyways, not quite as good as some Cashore’s other books in this series, but still a four star read.

3.5 stars rounded up because the ending was perfect

Compared to the previous book in the series I did like this story. However, it felt about 200 pages longer than it needed to be. There were many sections I felt like could be edited down. This book also solidified for me that I just don’t enjoy bitterblue as a character. I really tried to like her, I understand her, but I just don’t enjoy her.

I loved Hava though. Seeing her internal battles and understanding where she’s coming from based off the other books was really interesting. Besides the long story I did enjoy reading her book the most and seeing her at sea. It felt like an enjoyable way for this series to close out, unless there’s another book coming that I don’t know about

I think this was my fav out of the series😗 I dont think its a true 5⭐️ but who cares 😛 I like the plot line.

Hava is so real and I like the fact that the plot take up more of the story than the ‘romance’ but at the same time I want more interactions even if its not teheheh cutesie.
Also shout out to my girl Q. BB bc miss girl has really gone through it. Ma’am survived her psycho dad, climbed a mountain, fund her long lost sister, rebuilt her kingdom, was kidnapped, survived a shipwreck, and is still on top girlbossing with her zilfium.

Hava's narration initially bothered me but I really loved her character arc. Although I think Linny was my favorite.
