This book has great tips and tools that I’m excited to try in my own parenting. The stories of the author learning about other cultures and trying to implement new parenting strategies with her daughter were funny, helpful and enlightening. I do wish there were more practical examples of how to carry out some of her insights in Western culture, but her basic formula and observations seem easy enough to follow. Overall I’m glad I read it.

I finished this book and I already want to give it a reread! Loved the lessons, and the real-life examples given throughout. I find myself reflecting on the way I have been parenting, and have started finding little things to tweak and change along the way!

It also made me relieved that the author pledged 35% of her proceeds from the book back to those communities she learned from (if this wasn’t the case, I think this book wouldn’t have been appropriate).

Disclaimer: I don’t read parenting books and when I do they’re ones I know I’ll agree with.

Wish I had read this one sooner. While a lot of the general life and activity advice is great and easy to implement, I’m curious about how her ideas work out in practice on kids older than 3, but good advice nonetheless.

I feel like there are important and helpful lessons in here, but I couldn't get past all the wild generalizations (all Western parents do XYZ wrong and all non-western parents do XYZ right) and rosy-tinted view of what the author learned abroad. The idea of using your toddler as a real-time experiment and subject also kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

I loved this book and feel like it’s aligned with my parenting goals. I liked how it’s 3 larger ideas that are easy to remember. Basically, let your child help when they come to you offering to help, help your child regulate emotionally by being regulated yourself and let your child be autonomous by creating safe spaces for them and waiting before intervening.

I really loved all the little tips along the way as well. The only thing I would change is that instead of the handwritten notes and diagrams I would have them be computer generated. I had a copy that was a bit faded in a way that made the diagrams hard to read. I do think the handwriting is cute though and a nice personal touch so I think I may just get another copy.
