Darüber hinaus werde ich aber nur die kaputten Charaktere, die Unmengen an diversen Körperflüssigkeiten und das abgef*ckte Ambiente des alten Kinos in Erinnerung behalten, in dem sich nahezu die komplette Handlung abspielt.

this novel is a nauseating and disturbing tribute(?) to independent cinema. i hesitate in calling it a tribute, as those are positive in connotation. each character is painfully quirky. the whole thing felt like a wes anderson film gone nightmarish. the writing, while vivid, is visceral in my least favorite way. it is festering and disgusting, and it made me sick to keep reading. i felt on multiple occasions throughout this book that i should just set it down and walk away. the contents are gratuitously grimy and thoroughly repulsive. yet, i didn't stop. if i may admit to one flaw, it's my inability to walk away from a fucking trainwreck of a novel. i keep wanting it to get better, and it never does. i only wanted to keep reading so i could finally be rid of it. i struggle to figure out who the audience for this is, but it is certainly not me.
weird and visceral in the best ways. the level of atmosphere and detail makes this feel like a mix of all’s well (awad) and perfume (süskind). loved it!!
