Children of Paradise is going to be a book that lingers for me. Perhaps because of the ick factor. But actually, I enjoyed the ick and how flawed the characters were. I really enjoyed, as a lover of the gothic novel, how central the cinema was within the book and how the eeriness just seemed to seep out of every wall and floor. Not a book if you hate talk of bodily functions. Apparently, reading this, I've come to find that doesn't bother me, oddly.

This book is captivating from the beginning - magic realism or drug-fuelled trip? The story of a run-down cinema in a seaside town being dragged into the plastic-corporate of a modern chain. The story of it’s inhabitants- staff and clientele. It’s one of those books that will stay with me for a while.

This book is creepy and tragic and the perfect example of you don’t know how good you had it and now it’s gone

Such a train wreck of writing I couldn’t look away, if it was any longer I would have dnf’d pretty early.

Had no idea what the author was trying to say, the narrator was so annoying (which is fine when done well), the whole thing felt shocking for shocking’s sake. None of the vivid bodily fluid descriptions were needed, every sex scene was gratuitous, every character lacked dimension, I couldn’t root for anyone because I didn’t care about anyone.
