Don’t let the book cover fool you into believing this book will be quirky or fun. It’s neither. It’s hard to even put my thoughts into words because when I finished this, I was speechless. I need to make sure to say that this book is DARK. If you’re at all sensitive to anything, I’d skip this. I’d basically put trigger warnings for everything except animal abuse.
This isn’t a book I’d really recommend to anyone. I’d just say read at your own risk. No, it’s not the most disturbing book out there. If you frequently read splatterpunk, then this book will probably not be disturbing. I was just surprised by how dark this book got. There’s very little I can say about the story without giving everything away. What I can say is that the main character, Natsuki doesn’t fit in with the rest of society. Terrible things happen to her and the book is the story of how she deals with not fitting in and the things that happened to her. That’s basically all I can say without spoilers.
It would be strange if I said I liked this book, given the subject matter. I can say that I liked what the author had to say about women and their role in society.
Overall, this was a strange, disturbing, and uncomfortable book. I’d be interested in reading the author’s other work because this was well written.
If this book sounds intriguing, then by all means, read it. Below, I’ll provide some trigger warnings.
TW: incest, cannibalism, child abuse (mental physical and sexual)
