I've never read any Sherlock Holmes before, but I've seen the recent BBC show, as well as the RDJ films. I think the BBC show has got Sherlock very close to how he was in the book, although I dare say that the book Sherlock is a little more approachable/genial than Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock!

I was enjoying this until the interlude, which felt out of place and was dreadfully boring, to be quite honest. It detracted from the story, rather than added to it, and I lost interest quickly.

However, despite the 3 star rating, I do still plan to read more Sherlock Holmes novels, because I'm hoping they'll have more of exactly that - Sherlock Holmes.

I definitely enjoyed reading the source material for so much of the media I adore. The characters were much less on display then I would have thought. Sherlock is always such a specific personality in many of its iterations. Often very anti social or unable to pick up social cues. Which wasn't the case at all. I would even say he was fairly charismatic.

The atmosphere made both by the baker street boys, as well as, the sudden Mormon caveat was great. I ended up enjoying it more then I thought. I gave up a little there in the middle but I came around to the narrative by the end. I would like to read more of sherlock and watson, mostly for some more descriptions of their characters and less for the actual cases.

A good introduction to Sherlock Holmes and the mysteries he investigates. It felt more modern and timeless than I was expecting but I guess that’s part of why Sherlock Holmes has prevailed for so long in the pop culture. I thought the backstory of the Ferriers and the Mormons went on a bit long and slightly took me out of the principal storyline but apart from that no complaints!

Jeśli ktoś lubi lekkie kryminały zachęcam do przeczytania.

Sherlock Holmes as read by Stephen Fry ... delicious!

My first Sherlock Holmes book. A really enjoyable and fast paced story. Looking forward to reading the next one.

So I decided to start reading the Sherlock Holmes series after watching and loving the BBC mini series. I went in it understanding that obviously there would be differences as the BBC series takes place in the present day. I liked the differences, I liked how they changed some things. But that doesn't discuss the book.

The intro was fast, how Watson met Holmes seems a blur, but had enough info to get the idea. Holmes is much more of a jerk in the book than in any interpretation I have seen of him. The second part of the book came out of no where and for a while I thought the publishers had screwed up somehow, until I finally came across a name I recognized from the first part. But that just might be Doyle's style. As this is the first book of his I have read, I am uncertain of this.

Overall, it was an enjoyable, quick read, once you were assured you were reading the right book! I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
