I missed Ethan Sullivan. And after reading Biting Cold I want to leap on the stubborn and oh-so-sexy master vampire all over again. (I won’t because I so don’t want the wrath of a jealous Merit.)

I hadn’t realized how much I missed his cool control and wry wit. I actually came to enjoy Jonah in Drink Deep as a balance for Merit, but he is no match for Ethan. The dynamic between the Cadogan vampire and his sentinel pops on page. However, just because he’s back from the dead doesn’t mean things are easy for them. (Have they ever been?) Ethan has a realistic fear of hurting Merit due to the residual effects from the magic that brought him back. This forces Merit to finally take more control in their relationship. She no longer lets Ethan dictate when they’re on or “halting.”

Biting Cold showcases Merit’s growth as a character. She’s a stronger woman. Her confidence shines throughout the novel. She learned to exist in the worst case scenario without Ethan, and he’s returned to find her more capable than he realizes. Additionally, she isn’t in any rush to forgive Mallory for damn near destroying Chicago. Or for the other craziness she causes in Biting Cold.

When we started this journey in Some Girls Bite, Merit complained about her new lot as a vampire. In Biting Cold we finally see her as a truly powerful, capable woman. Hell, I’d let her lead a House, if I were in the GP.

Speaking of those bothersome vampire politicians, things are still jumbled within Cadogan. The GP isn’t pleased with them and refuses to reinstate Ethan as the Master of the house. (He did die.) Expect political tensions within the vampire world as well as with the fae. We see Claudia, the fae queen, more than once, and she continues to be a fascinating ancillary character.

Chloe Neill delivers another engaging plot, but better yet Biting Cold reminds us this urban fantasy series is about strong, well-developed characters. Ones we can get invested in and wish were real so we could indulge in a pizza and sing-along movie night at their place.

If you’ve been on the border about continuing Chicagoland Vampires, I encourage you to read Biting Cold. Neill has brought the series back to the core we fell in love with — and there’s a lot of Ethan. Shirtless. You do want to read about a Mr. Sexypants Vampire without clothing, don’t you?

Sexual content: Sex (and sexual frustration)

Can't Merit and Ethan finally have some happiness! And don't get me started on Mallory, she irritated me and broke me heart all at once. I pray she has more redemption in the next coming books...

Loved loved loved it! Could not put it down!

This book deserves more than five stars.I've been obsessed with this series like...from the moment I read the first chapter of Some Girls Bite. And when I finished reading Biting Cold I was really surprised because I realize that I loved Merit and Ethan as characters even more.

Merit is loyal, strong and willing to risk her life-as always-for other people. She's also fun and has amazing fighting skills.I was a bit upset and frustrated with Ethan though. He kept pushing poor Merit away and that was not okay.Seriously?I thought we had gotten over the whole stay-away-from-Merit-to-protect-her thing.Fortunately,in the end everything was good.I was also surprised by how much I liked Tate.He seemed like a bad character but I was totally shocked with the revelations.Another thing I loved about the whole story is that from the beginning, the author put the characters into unbelievable situations. There were so many plot twists that you didn't know what to expect. For me,it's a good thing because after six books of the same characters, some people might say...Aren't you tired of these series yet?And the answer is of course...no.The fact that there are plot twists makes the story and the characters even more fascinating and interesting. Many things happen in these six books. It's not a story you'll get bored with because in every single book something new happens that has you holding your breath and sitting at the edge of your sit.I haven't experienced the things I felt while reading Biting Cold and all the books in general...with like, other books. And I can officially declare that the books in the series are my favorite.Of all times.I hope it stays that way because I really don't want to be disappointed.

I have mixed views on this book. I really liked the ending. But some of the new twist about the villains I did not care for. Also I listen to the book on audio and the reader was new, The voice just did not sound right.

Sloppy

There were several things that bugged me so much I had to stop reading, reread, and verify I wasn’t imagining things. Good read otherwise.

3 stars

This one drove me a bit crazy. It seems like there will be a huge cross country race. They go to Nebraska and it only takes like the first 1/3 of the book. The rest of it takes place in Chicago. Ethan is so freakin up and down its making me dizzy and driving me nuts.
