Throttled has been on my TBR for a few months, I was always excited to read it but I kept putting things above it. I finally decided to give it a shot, I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book. I myself love going to track days or drifting competitions so reading something along the lines of that was refreshing. This story goes over a lot of real issues that people deal with such as abuse, masking emotions and feelings of not being good enough. Check the trigger warnings before starting this book if that is something you might not want to dive into.

SPOILERS BELOW:

We meet Noah and instantly he is portrayed as this A-Hole, Manwhore, spoiled rich guy. We see the extent of how far off track he is from humanity with the visual of him kicking a girl out of his room right off the bat. We see the strained relationship with his parents, the damage they caused without really diving into his backstory too much.

Maya and Noah have an instant attraction, we see that is ends up being mutual but of Corse, Noah makes a terrible first impression. Being that Noah and Mayas brother Santiago will be racing with each other for the season, this only adds to the rocky road ahead of them.

Noah is a world of trouble for Maya, he's fighting his feelings because he isn't sure he even knows what they mean. Growing up with the worst examples of love, trust and relationships. He assumes he can get what he wants from her and it will end once the season is over. He quickly learns that she is not going to put up with that. No matter how she feels around him, she's not willing to sacrifice her heart for a bit of fun with him.

What I loved:
Comradery with other racers, Liam and Jax. The ongoing inside jokes and little digs were hilarious and really made the guys feel real.

Mayas inner dialogue, "Ten points for Maya growing up! Look, Ma, I made it!" or "Oh man, I’m in trouble." Maya is sassy, strong headed and is doing her best to respect the opportunity she has been given as well as her brothers wishes.

Noah's attitude, the god complex was great. That is exactly what I would expect from someone with 3 world championships. He had every right to be cocky with his driving, but we see he's not as confident in his real life. He's dealing with a lot of unresolved issues and trauma.

Noah is a protective love interest from the first date Maya has, inserting himself into their bubble, letting his anger slip with things like “Un-fucking-likely,” when it is suggested they do it again. Or later in the story where Santi is giving Maya crap. “Quit harassing my girlfriend, Santiago.” Its cute.

Lovey Dovey Noah, the one that relies on her towards the end of his last race. We see his weakness, and Maya is there as his rock to make sure he pulls through. I loved the dialogue here: “Maya?” his voice rasps. “Yup?” “Keep talking. I love hearing your voice.” Happy to oblige.

And can we talk about the damn video before he pops the question?? That is the cutest thing ever, I didnt even realize that was being set up but it just shows how committed Noah was before even he knew it.

What I didn't love:
Noah makes a huge mistake, I feel like there should have been more groveling. Sophia gives in too easily and then so does Maya. Yes I want her to forgive him, but make it a challenge.

He eventually does take it upon himself to make sure she does trust him with the track day date. I loved that scene, they were able to just be themselves and enjoy what they both love together.

Overall I liked this book and am looking forward to Liams story with Sophia.

Other Favorite Moments:

He sends me a smirk and mock salute as a goodbye.

His gaze explores my body before he closes his eyes, his lips moving like he’s saying a silent prayer. His reaction tells me I get a gold star for the red dress choice.

“What are the chances of dying of a heart attack at twenty-three? Seriously, you’re googling this? I didn’t know I had such an effect on you. You flatter me.”

“You may have called me God last night, but I’m the only one behind the wheel today.” The smug man fucking winks.

Throttled by Lauren Asher is a love story created around the sport of Formula 1 Racing.  The Bandini race team has brought on a new racer who is their primary driver's rival.  Noah Slade is not happy at all to be teamed up with Santiago Alatorre.  Santiago brings his little sister with him to accompany him on the circuit this year.  Santiago has forbidden Maya from dating any of the racers, especially the Playboy Noah.  Noah notices Maya immediately, and she believes him to be an attractive jerk whom she knows she can’t get involved with. As with most forbidden love stories, it is only a matter of time before things heat up.  I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the other stories from the Dirty Air series.

I liked the setting a lot, but I just couldn't connect with the characters.
