I understand that this book isn't supposed to be groundbreaking literature, but I really struggled to get through it without being frustrated.
There were some issues with consistency toward the end of the book. We spend the whole book in this 'forbidden love' situation with Maya and Noah, building up to this penultimate event of telling Santi about their relationship. They do a bunch of sneaking around and secret meet ups and longing glances, which sound super not subtle in my opinion but that's a different topic. All of this leads up to their relationship being exposed by Noah's dad after a race and everything is just fine?? Santi is like "oh well darn it I wish you had told me!" and then nothing happens and he and Noah are all of a sudden besties. The ending left such a sour taste for the whole book for me. I didn't feel like the author had kept to the plotline she had spent 90% of the book creating.
The whole setup of this book was also tacky in my opinion. I think it is unrealistic for Maya to experience the growth she did on social media and I couldn't really stop thinking about that when she would suddenly amass 200k more followers over the course of one week. I know that's a small detail but it really ground my gears, no pun intended.
I read this for book club and I probably won't be reading any more F1 romance any time soon.
