I was really excited to read this because of how much I loved “The Bass Rock.” But this book was SO disjointed. It was all over the place in time, characters were introduced with no explanation; there was really little to no explanation for anything. It was actually a struggle to read, and each conflict had only a partial resolution. While wylds writing is beautiful, the actual storyline was borderline incoherent.

Evocative, harsh, disturbing at times.  Jake's rough life revealed from teen, to runaway, to sheep farmer.  What creature is in the woods?

harumph. :)

i found this to be a very disjointed read that didn't ever work into a cohesive whole for me. it had a lot of potential, and i loved some of the writing lot, but i just ended up feeling this was just weird - and not in a good way. wild spends a lot of time building up the mysteries, slowly dishing out information. ultimately, though, it really fizzled at the end. so that was quite a shame. wild has an evocative way of writing, the characters and settings were interesting but the flow was just so clunky - it made me wonder what was changed, sacrificed, or improved during the editing process. rather than being swept away by the story, i was paying more attention to the style and writing.

Engaging storytelling achieved by weaving two lines together in what for me was a really interesting and new way. The end left me wanting more depth in one of the story lines and more resolution in the other (resulting in the 3 stars). Solid but quiet book.
