This was a hard one to rate. The synopsis was nothing like the actual book. So, it took me a while to adjust to what the book actually was. If you're looking for something whimsical and magical, this is NOT the book for you. Instead, this book was a sad, deep, and reflective look at what it truly means to be alive through the eyes of a main character who is severely depressed and suicidal. I would have waited to read this had I known all that; I need to be in the right mood to be so depressed alongside the main character.

All of that said, for what it ACTUALLY was, this was an interesting book. The beginning was a little frustrating, it felt like the FMC was going around in circles and not remembering the lessons she was meant to be learning and building throughout. She got there in the end, but it read as an odd choice to me. The final quarter of the book was definitely the strongest, and was enough for me to not regret reading this book.

Kind, enrapturing, forgiving, and inspirational. This will pull you out of any funk you might be in, literary or otherwise.

I feel unsure how I feel about this book.

I enjoyed it and liked the premise. There were points when I wished I was reading the book physically rather than listening to the audiobook which is usually a good sign.

However, it was very predictable from the beginning.

Some of the messages were a bit heavy-handed while trying to sound very poetic and innovative, but I haven’t decided yet whether I think that heavy-handed overtness was powerful in its own way or whether something a little subtler may have been more emotionally powerful. There is certainly a power to saying things as they are.
