This book follows main character 10 year old Jamie, who is Jas’s younger brother. Jas used to be a twin, that is until Rose passed away due to a terrorist attack bombing. With the loss of their sister this family is torn apart and the parents face heavy grief trying to mourn the loss of their daughter. This book was very touching as it dives into death, grief and mourning as we follow the steps this family must take to regain control of their lives again. I do want to mention as a warning that both addiction and racism play a part in this book and can be upsetting to read.

the end part about her taking off her hijab was not necessary. Even though I understand it is to prove a point made earlier on in the book, the author didn’t need to do it. It is something that white people do a lot in their books when the depict a nonwhite person, it wasn’t necessary for the plot or the characters’ relationship.
