I learned way more about sleepwalking than I cared to, and I would have appreciated a note from the author letting me know if was all factual. The story kept my interest and maybe I’m slow, but I didn’t predict the ending. The ending was a convenient wrap up that wasn’t quite believable, but it is a work of fiction.
I always find Chris Bohjalian’s novels to be entertaining. Sleepwalking really worked well for the basis of this story. Good read.
A different take on the missing person's genre. In this case, the missing person is a sleepwalker. And not just a sleepwalker, but an extreme sleepwalker who does many things in her sleep. When she disappears during the night there are assumptions made, and rumors, but it will keep you guessing. The story is told from the perspective of one of the missing women's daughters as she tries to make sense of not just what happened to her mom, but the many things that children don't always understand about their parents and marriage and the things we know and think we know.

I felt this was a pretty dull book. Slow to start, and honestly not exciting or all that interesting until the last ten or so pages. I had just started getting into it - and feeling somewhat vindicated for having stuck with it - when it ended. I understand this is a "psychological thriller", however I've read many psychological thrillers that were still exciting and actually... well, thrilling.
This rather slow-paced story follows a girl whose mother, a known sleepwalker, vanishes one night, presumably while sleepwalking. We follow this girl as she lives her life, day in and day out, ruminating on her mother's fate. Finally at the end, we get some action, but just as it starts, the novel ends. It doesn't feel unfinished, as you do discover what happened - it just feels disappointing that you waited all those pages for some action, and it's over in a blink. I've seen other reviews that agree this book is dull, but claim the author's other novels are better - might someday try another one.

I had to really stretch to give this 3 stars. What saved it was the surprise ending. No spoilers here.
However, throughout most of the book, I found the main character to be tedious.
