The writing style left something to be desired for me but it definately delivers on the whole "gothic vampire beauty and the beast queer retelling" promise.

honestly I just don’t think I like men enough to listen to an audiobook with a male narrator and have the main characters be men. Thought I’d like it because it was a queer book but it didn’t outweigh my disdain for men

I had high hopes for this book and I was sadly disappointed. The only reason I didn't DNF this is because there were a couple of chapters that had me hooked, and made me believe that the novel would improve. The book made it to 2.5/5 instead of just 2 because the writing was very good it was just the plot that was lacking in so many moments and certain things were just dragged on.

I'm obsessed with Beauty and the Beast. OBSESSED. Tattoos and all. So when I heard there was a retelling of my favorite Disney movie but also made it MM? The way I RAN TO AMAZON.
This book was everything; It hurt my soul, made me snicker and laugh, and left me feeling quite lost honestly. It's one of those books you know you'll have a hard time getting over.
The ones that leave you with that serious hurt and pain that is the awful book hangover.

While this book is not high on the spice (I know, this is ME we're talking about!) and is mildly angsty it is honestly SO amazing. It was wonderful to see Jak grow apart from his Coven's hatred and learn the secrets of Marius and the curse on his own, to learn the actual truth. It was wonderful to see them both slowly fall for each other as well. The longing and even the pain towards the end (MARIUS' CHAPTER WAS RUDE SIR. SO RUDE) was so beautifully done. The study and learning about the other Claims? How Marius continued their own stories on, in what they could have been (AGAIN. RUDE)?
Ben is SO fucking insanely talented and I cannot wait to read more of the series, even more so as the next one is Hades x Persephone?! MY GOD YES PLEASE.

Excuse me while I go run to Amazon and grab myself a copy (OF THAT GORGEOUS HARDBACK?!?!?!) so I can go and cry in a corner while rereading it.

I loved this way more than I thought I would. I won’t lie I didn’t have high hopes but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a great retelling of beauty and the beast. Also, comparing it to from ash and blood is what gave me hesitation because I didn’t like that book but I loved this one.

It also wasn’t drawn out but still built their relationship as best it could in a short time span. I also loved the ending, very satisfying. I can’t wait to read more of the authors books, gonna go to my favorite indie bookstore and request they order them all.
