The Playboy Playmaker - Totally Pucked #6 - Review

Couple: Hudson “Romeo” Rome & Caroline

Author: Maren Moore

Tropes: age-gap, hockey romance, coach’s daughter, NHL romance, coach’s daughter, secret relationship, immediate spice, possessive dirty talker

Review: This is the last book in this series and it ties up all loose ends nicely. The book is dual POV and centers around Hudson and Caroline. This book makes you feel like you are witnessing their story with how much angst and emotion Maren puts into these characters.

This book takes a HUGE spin on the normal coach’s daughter romance since Hudson is 13 years older than Caroline. I really enjoyed the development of the two and the determination Hudson had about changing his reputation. Hudson’s character was funny and I found myself routing for him when reading his chapters and hoping that he could prove himself to Caroline. I also loved how this book was a he-falls-first type book, this made it seem more entertaining since he was not used to rejection and fell HARD for Caroline.

Caroline’s character was also really strong in my opinion. I felt like Maren really made her stand-out by having Caroline leaps and bounds more mature than normal co-ed aged FMCs. I also felt like Caroline was perfect for Hudson and that her maturity allowed him to grow up some. TO me, the best parts were Caroline’s inner commentary on her feelings and her admiration of his game.

The book is a 10/10 on spice and this couple really has intense chemistry. I felt like it was just enough and not too much since they had to sneak around and were hiding from Coach. I also liked how when it did blow up in Hudson’s face that he faced it head on and told coach he had no regrets.

Rating: 9/10, a great ending to this series!

I'm going to start out by saying that this is the only book that i've read in the Totally Pucked series. This can 100% be read as a standalone, which is the way I have read it. Yes there are clearly spoilers from the books before this. But i will say that it ended the series perfectly even with me only knowing Hudson & Caroline.

I love when there are books that take place in Chicago because I only live an hour outside of the city.

Hudson 'Romeo' Rome is the goalie for the Chicago Avalanche hockey team. He loves his career & would do anything to keep playing hockey as long as he can... but when he's out at dinner and runs into the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, he takes a chance. Hooking up with her & not knowing her name was not what he intended to happen. But what happens when he sees her again... only to find out she is his coaches daughter who is 13 years younger than you?

Caroline Evans moved from Seattle to Chicago to be closer to her dad & attend college. Her dad may coach hockey but she has no clue what goes on in his world... so when she sees that the guy she hooked up with is her dads goalie, she freaks out. But as the hook up more and more... feelings grow.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. I loved all the characters! Wren was probably one of my favorites & I wanted to hug him.

I tried to make it through as far as I could cause I hate DNFing books but this was unreadable. I really couldn’t get past the whole age thing. And it’s not even that he’s older. It’s that she’s a junior in college and can’t legally drink and he’s been filing his own taxes for a decade and half. And I don’t appreciate the lamp shading about her age either. And don’t get me wrong- I’ll read a book with smut. But this was like 90% smut and 10% story. Not a huge fan.

Not for me. I don't like in age gaps when the girl is barely 21 and he's a grown ass man in his middle thirties.

The finale of this series is the best one. The only thing that didn’t sit right is Caroline being a broke college student when her dad is an NHL coach. Funny, sweet, would’ve loved a little more with Wren or Hudson’s family bc they were mentioned so much. Spice is fantastic. Good wrap up.

Hudson has just won the Stanley Cup with his teammates, but he is feeling a little out of it. He feels stuck in his life, he is feeling a bit unfulfilled. He is at the Cup party and decides to leave. On his way out he bumps into a beautiful woman. He decides to hang out with her and give her a tour of the facility. They don't exchange names, and at the end of the night, they have a hot hook up in a broom closet.

A few weeks later, Hudson is in his coach's office when the girl he can't stop thinking about walks in. Not only is his Juliet his coach's daughter, Caroline, she is also a college student and 13 years younger than Hudson. They agree to keep their hook-up secret and agree that it won't happen again. The problem is they both can't stop thinking of each other, and Caroline is interning with the youth hockey team Hudson volunteers with. They agree to hooking up in secret and when they are finished, they both walk away.

Ok, I loved Hudson so much! He is so unbelievably sweet and caring. He loves his people deeply and would do anything for any of them. But man is he also filthy
