The only way I can describe this was 📉📈 for a book not too long, the middle section dragged to me. I found the main narrator to be irritating but I loved some of the side characters and the setting. I definitely preferred the past timeline to the present. I think if I was a fiction reader I'd have liked this a lot more.

Such a beautiful story. I always love a story about a special place.

I listened to the audio book and Meryl Streep clinched the fifth star. Otherwise a four stars: three grown daughters flock back to the cherry orchard farm in Michigan at the start of the covid pandemic and day by day their mother tells them the story of her short summer as an actress and love story with a young actor than then becomes famous. It’s classic Patchett, the relationship between mother and elder daughter in particular is convincing in its edginess. But there is something unconvincing about the mother, she protests a bit too much about about how happy she is with her life. As always with Patchett, I found myself wondering why I should care at all about these people. But yes, well written, a good story and Meryl Streep…

This writing is the best I’ve ever seen at showing who a character is through either actions. You can track a character's motivation. As a psych major I really appreciate that.
