Decent storyline that kept my interest, however around having 50 pages left I was struggling to finish because I didn’t feel much more needed to be said or explained. The writing is nice and I enjoyed the character development!

This book started out slow and I almost gave up but then it started to pick up. The story unfolds in a unique, but sometimes clunky, way. While I enjoyed a lot of the book I didn't LOVE any of the characters and don't feel a huge pull to read more from this author.

There were way too many POV's. The overlap of the past story and the present story felt awkward and unnecessary. The addition of the other story that appeared with the exterminator. IT all felt cobbled together with little cohesion. None of the characters stood out. They were all 2 dimensional and boring. It was all washed in gray.

I really like all the different story lines and how they are woven together. Lisa Unter's character have so much depth and their flaws make them all the more likable and believable. A great read and I wish I had read this one before reading Darkness, my old friend. I think it would have made me enjoy that one even more.

I've read a few of Lisa Unger's books; some are fairly good and others are just ok. This one fell somewhere in between with a 3 star rating. There are lots of twists and turns (a few that caught me unaware) which I normally like, but there were so many that it made the story too far-fetched. I was listening to this and while the narrator was good, I still found my mind wandering at times. Lots of characters and fraught with issues of growing up and living in a small town.

There were times when this book was really really good and I was on the edge of my seat and didn't want to put it down. Then the book went on and on and on and it's almost like in the last few chapters the author was like "okay time to quickly wrap it up". I feel like there was more to learn about certain characters and I would be interested to see if they're in the second book. And I did not care for Jones much or feel sorry for him, I'll probably read book 2 to see if my opinion improves of him because the story was good.
