This is a very interesting account of the whole Al-qaeda terrorists operative network. It describes in tantalising detail the amount of work that was put into interrogating these operatives who terrorised the world for so many years.

Ali Soufan is one of those people who are invisible to us all until you read his book. That his work on investigating the activities that lead to the arrests of several terrorists and to the fall of bin Laden was not given the limelight is a shame. He after all not only is an accomplished interrogator but an extremely intelligent one.

You'd be surprised how the CIA tried to undermine his and the FBI's efforts in civilised interrogation techniques. It is very disturbing that the higher echelons of the US government during the Bush era were actually condoning "aggressive" interrogation techniques that did not produce much credible results (think Cheney and Rumsfeld).

I really wish the truth be told out there instead of all this misrepresentation that we are fed on a daily basis by governments around the world. The US is no different in that aspect but because they are the most powerful nation in the world, they can actually get away with it. Look at Gitmo for one, it is really appalling that the US throws the book on the UN convention on human rights but at the same time criticises other countries for not having civilised human rights provisions.

Ali, your work has opened many eyes including mine. Keep up your good work and god bless you and your family.
