I really liked the idea of the book.
The magic was varied and mysterious, the characters distinct, and the social justice themes clear.

But there were just too many characters and only some of them I cared about.
So when the event at the climax of the story occured I was perhaps less concerned than I may have been otherwise.
I would read the next story however, It could be like Game of Thrones or Lord of The Rings where it is easier to keep track of and appreciate the characters after the first book.
Definitely worth the read either way.

Intriguing urban fantasy with great social commentary, well written characters and a mysterious plot that hopefully is explained a little more in the second book. (which I definitely will be reading) Some POVs felt unnecessary and some aspects of the plot I wish were told instead of shown. I enjoyed this and need everyone to pick this up!

The story jumped around too much and was hard to follow. The only reason I gave it three stars was for the diversity of characters.

This book is quite a trip, some interesting concepts in it but I feel those concepts are never fully explained. Like stuff happens but you're not given much insight into how everything works. There's a lot of characters and so a lot of shifting points of view which can be hard to follow and connect at times, I felt that I had to sometimes go back and try to remember which character was who and there's kind of a mysterious narrator watching it all which made it a little more confusing. I think there's something philosophical in this book so if you're into existential questions, this might be a good book for you. The book does get quite dark towards the end, not my cup of tea but there is something very real and very raw in it.
