This is a really ambitious book with a lot of interesting ideas. I don’t know that it fully comes together for me, but I'm definitely going to read the next one. Best section was the one split between Calvin/Cory and the atomic professor’s life.

I honestly completely lost most of the plot after the fourth POV. Having more than 4 POVs makes it so hard for me to keep track of who is who and stay engaged with the story. Oddly enough, I still listened to the entire audiobook because I loved the narrator and I got the gist of what was going on but nothing particular.
Highly recommend maybe reading this in tandem with the audio. I definitely needed the physical copy to follow more closely with the story. The way the author described the POVs in this book is that they are the community as a whole. This is a part of a trilogy and the next two books will have different POVs if I’m not mistaken.
Sadly, this didn’t interest me enough to want to continue with the trilogy but I did love the author’s writing and would definitely pick up other work by him. He has a debut sci-fi novel called The Lesson that I will definitely read one of these days.

This book has a sprawling cast of characters and moves through time and perspectives in ways that are equal parts frustrating and genius. As expansive as this is, I still feel an intimate connection with the various main characters, even if I still want to know more about them. The moments we get are tender and honest and complicated, and, ultimately, very compelling. It is clear this is the just opening the door to a series, as more questions are asked than answered, ending without anything resembling closure. But with that said, the book manages to bring up ideas of identity and solidarity in really interesting ways, again not giving answers or even a clear path to answers but just highlighting how complicated it can be to be, in the world, where closure is rarely offered in the face of inexpressible tragedy and outrage. The writing was haunted, almost, and very much draws you right in. I can't wait to read more and continue the journey!
Too many characters to care about their stories. Not enough of a spark to bring them to life either. I enjoyed the writing style, however.
