Feels like the first in a series, but the overall story, while not bad, just didn’t grab me. The “monsters are people, too” angle has been done to death and I didn’t really see much of a variation on the them. I was intrigued by the technomages, though. A book about just them could be cool.

This was somehow both an easy read and also extremely confusing??? There was so much jumping around through POVs and time jumps, and I often forgot which characters connected where. To be fair, I'm not a huge fan of perspective changes in books, especially to this degree. While reading it felt like every plot was a main plot, but there were so many to keep track of that by the end it felt like many of the plots were unnecessary.

This was a wild ride, and though I may not fully understand it (might have to reread this some time), it was an enjoyable read. So many characters to follow though.
