‘Many men had died or simply vanished from his life - Jatius McClansy, Arnold, Skylar, his father, his stepfather, the list went on. He made a list of the pros and cons of all these men. He noticed that the last con for each of them was, He never really loved me.’

DeShawn lives in San Francisco and goes back to Alabama for his uncle's funeral. This novel follows his journey and reflections on people he's known both growing up and after he moved to San Francisco. It's sort of rambling but engaging, and has the best qualities of personal zines - funny in unexpected ways, emotional in places, authentic and raw but still polished writing.

This was definitely different than what I’m used to reading. I really loved the author’s writing style, and how candid it was.

reckless and fun. Different from the other books but no less raunchy. I love inhabiting Purnell's world.
