Deshawn takes a roller coaster of a journey through his memories. This is one quick but very deep read.

brontez's writing is as accessible as it is profound. how the heavy sometimes just needs the simplest of words to convey. it's beautiful, haunting, and sweaty

This was very good. Even if there were some parts I didn't find the writing that convincing, I was overall very interested in the story and some parts were also written really well.

Trigher warning - rape, pedophilia, racial slurs, homophobic slurs, child abuse, spousal abuse.

This is such a difficult book to review. Do I agree with the actions of the protagonist? Absolutely not. But I understand every reason behind his actions. This us a necessary story that I feel represents and unacknowledged portion of the gay community. It takes away the squeaky clean veneer of the typical, "white man loves other white man but society" gay stories that are typically written. This was a poignant and personal story from a Black gay man about the struggles of another gay Black man, and it was stunning and raw and upsetting and beautiful.
