So I really loved aspects of this, I also liked what the story was trying to do. I could relate to the main characters romantic interest discovery which was nice. BUT the main theme was one that I dont typically enjoy. And I guess thats it. That is my take. I didn't enjoy that part and it was a main theme. I did like the characters, I did like the writing, and I enjoyed some of the moments. I was VERY frustrated with the parents but liked how that was handled.. but yeah. not my favorite of the series

Trigger warnings: lying, catfishing, panic attack on page, family abandonment

I was absolutely prepared to hate this book. At this point, we all know that catfishing is absolutely not okay and personally, lying is one of my biggest pet peeves. I cannot stand a liar. However, I really enjoyed this author's first book and I wanted to support her sophomore novel since it came out this year. I am happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised and ended up really enjoying it! In the beginning, Kat definitely got on my nerves but I understood her. Her reasoning and motivations, while not good, made sense for her and her struggles. In the end though, I really appreciated her journey. I was worried she would get away with the bad decisions she made, but that wasn't how it happened. There were real consequences that she felt intimately, but weren't impossible to process. The resolution was my favorite part of the novel, so realistic but genuine! I really liked all the side characters introduced and how these relationships developed. And I also liked the almost side plot of Kat discovering her sexuality and how seamlessly that was added into the overall story. I think execution made this book more enjoyable than I thought it would be, making Crystal Maldonado an author I will always read from!

Got sick of listening to the main character complain about likes on Instagram.

not a literary masterpiece or anything but I really loved it!
there's something about characters fucking Up majorly in their relationship and then not getting some half assed retribution but instead kinda figuring out that their friends are enough (add that to my list of hyper specific tropes I enjoy)
