I picked up this book not because I am interested in Socialism or Marx, but simply because I like the "for Beginners" comic series. The book series are comics that talk about the history and theories of various famous scientist, psychologist, and in this case- philosopher. I found this book the most disappointing in the series. The other books would incorporated the pictures with the text better, making the lesson visual. But Marx theories are perhaps a little bit harder to show visually. So the author tend to have large chunk of texts that slowed down the flow of the book.

But this shouldn't discourage anyone who wants or has to learn about Marx. The book gives a comprehensive look at socialism and Marx's theories. It is great to read because that author Rius goes into the different philosophers who help influence Marx's ideas.

If the reader is starting from zero, this book is *dense*, despite being very charming and full of cartoons. As a journeyman Marxist, this was a fun refresher and lesson on the history of materialism.

A solid book for a quick bio on the man and overview of his work. Loses a star for unnecessary middle section going over the history of philosophy with what can only be described as the attitude of a teenage atheist edgelord. Overall, however, a good and quick introduction to the ideas of class struggle, capitalism, and socialism.

As someone who was scared to read any difficult theory, this book helped me understand a lot of complex ideas, I now feel ready to take on other more difficult books.

What a great read! It’s easy to digest due to the illustrations, yet it also tackles a lot of complex ideologies and explains them in-depth. It reminded me a lot of Matt Groening’s ‘Life in Hell’ book series. It’s very informative but it’s also very fun! Worth checking out if you have an interest in Marx.
