Reviewing book & audio here, & I ADORED BIRDIE & LIAM!
Grayson Owens can do no wrong when it comes to audio, & Angelica Rocca was perfect for Birdie! They both were honestly, & were exactly how I imagined Birdie & Liam to sound!
Kayla Grosse is one of my favorite authors, & she always gives us great plus size female leads, & swoon worthy men that love them! Birdie & Liam live up to that, Liam more so later on, he frustrated me at the beginning but it played well into the story & his personality/demeanor, so I get it lol!
I really enjoyed this story of friends to enemies to lovers, & bodyguard/rock star! The twist & connection was unexpected too, loved that!

They were being too mean to each other/going back and forth in the same sentence and I did not like the MMC thinking of another woman and then the FMC.
I didn’t really understand the heros point of view. It kind of seemed sudden when he changed his mind and decided that he did like her. I didn’t like how he said several times that he didn’t like her when they were teenagers.
Liam and Birdie had me an a fucking chokehold. I love a big girl getting her bag (and her man)!
This story had so many layers, and they were woven perfectly throughout. The angst of their teen years, coupled with Liam’s extra trauma from his days with the NYPD. I had some reservations when I realized he was an ex-cop, but the narrative didn’t glamorize it, which I respected.
The whole third act had me on the edge of my seat! I couldn’t believe the plot twist about who the stalker was! I had to hold back a gasp!
I really, really enjoyed this book, and I’ll definitely be reading more from Kayla!

I was expecting to like this a lot more than I did. The writing f style wasn’t my favorite. And I was going into this thinking it was a childhood friends to lovers but it’s actually unrequited love? I didn’t find most of the characters particularly likeable and had to really push myself to finish the book.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I’ve read many of Kayla‘s novels and typically I really enjoy them. On the surface, I really liked the premise of this novel, but I feel like it should’ve been a bit longer to flush out some of the nuances of the characters.
for example, I don’t really feel like there was enough chemistry or plot history there between the two characters from their teen years to warrant the level of love and the speed of it in the end of the novel. Based on everything that was written, it seemed like Liam really wasn’t interested in Birdie at all in that way at any point in their lives. So it threw me for a loop when he suddenly was so madly in love with her at the end of the novel.
I really liked the overall premise of the novel and I feel like if she spent a little bit more time revisiting this novel to add a bit more depth to both their past history as 16-year-olds and to some of the events in the novel, it would make it stronger overall.
However, it was still a cute read and I enjoyed the fact that Birdie was a tall, plus-sized MC!

This one was definitely a "do not judge the book by its cover" story. I was thinking it was a college romance... I guess not! I was happy to see it was a second chance, frenemies to lovers, bodyguard/rock star romance!!!!
So... Birdie and Liam were friends as teenagers. Birdie tells him that she likes, likes him. He turns her down (he had something going on at home and didn't want to lose his BBF). Birdie's heart is broken so she puts distance between them - fast-forward 10 years later. Birdie is now a famous rock star with a dangerous stalker. Guess who happens to be a bodyguard? Yeap. Liam.
Their story is one of self-love and getting to know each other once again as adults (with tragic pasts) I was happy to see both of them open up and explain their feelings! The miscommunication trope was done well with this one and the MC were able to move forward. I am hoping to get some of Ben and Wren's story!

Give me a rockstar romance and I'm a happy reader! Make that a female rockstar and her bodyguard and I couldn't wait to read this book! I loved Birdie and her band! She was a fierce heroine, who was independent and proud of who she is. Liam is Birdie's high school best friend, she had a huge crush on him, but he rejected her and their friendship fell apart. This is my favorite kind of second chance romance and their forced proximity and reconnection was so great. This book gets super spicy an I am 100% here for it!
This audiobook is narrated by Angelina Rocca and Grayson Owens. Their narration was well paired Angelina has a great male voice and distinct character narration not only for the MMC and MFC, but also for the side characters. I think this was my first Grayson Owens listen and I really enjoyed his narration. His tone is smooth and his voice is at a great timbre. I really enjoyed his male and female character narration.
I received an ALC of this book and voluntarily give my honest review.
